Came to Calgary via the work permit route. Total spend was ₹9.2L vs my ₹8L estimate — the difference was the flight (₹1.1L when I had budgeted ₹80K), first month rent (Calgary is more expensive than I thought), and an IRCC document clarification request that cost ₹40K extra. Now earning CAD $78K/year and got PR in 22 months.
Biggest Financial Surprise
The long-haul flight and first-month Calgary expenses were higher than I estimated. Also, my PR application had a document issue that cost ₹40,000 extra to resolve.
Advice for Future Nurses
Budget CAD $3,000 (₹1.8L) for your first month in Canada regardless of which city. Also keep ₹50,000 as a PR document contingency fund.
